Introduction

Layered commands eliminate the need to hold down several keys at once when performing specific tasks. You can use general layered commands which work in a variety of applications or layered commands specific to Skype. These commands allow you to perform certain tasks from anywhere on the screen, making it easy to answer and disconnect Skype calls even when your JAWS focus is in another application.

Layered commands are executed by first pressing JAWS Key+SPACEBAR. You’ll hear a double clicking sound which indicates the first layer is open. Press a designated letter to open the second layer, which for Skype, is the letter Y. Pressing a third letter will activate the command.

To hear which layered commands are available, press INSERT+SPACEBAR followed by the QUESTION MARK. This will provide you with context specific commands, and then a list of available general layered commands.

Skype Specific Layered Commands

You can access a list of Skype specific layered commands from within any application by pressing INSERT+SPACEBAR, followed by the letter Y, then QUESTION MARK. The results are displayed in the Virtual Viewer. Press ESC to close the Virtual Viewer.

There are currently three layered commands available in Skype. First press INSERT+SPACEBAR to activate the first layer, the letter Y to activate the second, then the corresponding letter of the particular command you wish to execute. The commands are:
