Virtualize the Current Window

INSERT+ALT+W

The ability to virtualize the current window or control is a very handy function of JAWS. It collects the static text and regular text in any given window or dialog box. It brings this text into the virtual viewer where it can be copied to the clipboard and pasted into other applications. This is especially useful, for example, in copying an error message into an e-mail. It can also be used to copy the text from a dialog box into an instruction manual.

To virtualize the current window, press INSERT+ALT+W. Press ESC to dismiss the Virtual Viewer when you are finished reading the text within it.

Sometimes virtualizing the whole window may yield too much information. If so, use the command to virtualize the current control, INSERT+SHIFT+V.

Please allow [01:01] to watch the short instructional demonstration on virtualizing the current window before continuing to the next topic.
