Install from the Web

Since the Basic Training books are not installed by default, there may be times when you need to put the Basic Training onto a computer with no Internet access. In this case, you can download the individual Basic Training books from the Getting Started with JAWS page on the Freedom Scientific website. The contents of each book are stored in a ZIP file which can be extracted to a folder on your computer and opened in FSReader.

1. Open the Getting Started with JAWS page and navigate to the “Basic Training DAISY Books for JAWS” heading.
2. Move to the “1 JAWS Basic Training Introduction and Overview (DAISY)” link and press ENTER to download it. By default, the file should be saved in your Downloads folder on your computer.
3. Extract the contents of the ZIP file to a folder of your choice.
4. Launch FSReader using the icon on the Desktop.
5. Press CTRL+O to access the Open File dialog box.
6. Navigate to the folder where you extracted the contents of the book and select the ncc.html file to open it for reading or listening.

Exercise: Try downloading other files from the Getting Started with JAWS page and opening them. Note that you can also download just the HTML files for each book and view them in your web browser. You can also download just the audio for each book in MP3 format and listen to them using your favorite media player.
