Since the Basic Training books are not installed by default, there may be times when you need to put the Basic Training onto a computer which has no Internet access. In this case, you can download the individual Basic Training books from a different computer on the Getting Started with JAWS page on the Freedom Scientific website. The contents of each book are stored in a ZIP file which can be extracted to a folder on your computer and opened in FSReader.
First, I am going to close FSReader. I will press ALT+F4.

(N) I have opened the "Getting Started with JAWS" page. That is FreedomScientific.com/training/jaws/getting-started. On this page you will find the Basic Training in three different formats, DAISY, MP3 audio only, and HTML or text. I am going to press the letter H to move to the heading that talks about the Basic Training DAISY books.

(N) I will press DOWN ARROW to read through this text.
(J) These DAISY files are packaged within ZIP files for downloading. After downloading them, you may extract them to any location on your computer. You can then play them using Freedom Scientific’s FSReader DAISY software player, or a different software or hardware DAISY player. To play a DAISY book with FSReader, do the following:
(N) The instructions go on to tell you how to do this. I am going to press the TAB key until I move to book three, "Menus, Dialog Boxes, and the JAWS Startup Wizard."

(N) I will press ENTER to download this book.
(J) Alert. Downloading 46.7 MB, 03-MenusDialogBoxes... Alert, download complete. Press shift+F6 to cycle to the downloads bar area.
(N) By default, the file should be saved in your Downloads folder on your computer. I am going to press ALT+F4 to close the browser.
(J) Alt+F4. Taskbar.
(N) And I will press WINDOWS Key+E to open up File Explorer.

(N) I will press the letter D to find the Downloads folder and then press ENTER to go into that.

(N) There it is. I will press SPACEBAR to select it.

(N) I am going to cut this and go to my C drive.

(N) Where I have a folder called "DAISY Training." I will move to that folder.
(J) Level 3, DAISY Training, 2 of 18.
(N) And I will press ENTER, and CTRL+V to paste the zip file there.
(J) Pasted from clipboard.
(N) You can extract the contents of the ZIP file to a folder of your choice, of course. I will press ENTER.
(J) Explorer pane, unavailable, 03-MenusDialogBoxesAndTheJAWSStartupWizard-daisy.zip.
(N) I will press the ALT key to go to the ribbon.
(J) Upper ribbon. Extract. Compressed folder tools tab selected, 1 of 1.
(N) I will type J C, then the letter A to extract All.
(J) Leaving menus, Extract Compressed (Zipped) folders. Files will be extracted to this folder: Etc.
(N) I will leave that as it is and press ENTER.
(J) Cancel button, 25% complete, copying 48 items from...
(N) I pressed CTRL to stop speech. For the time being I am going to close this folder by pressing ALT+F4.
(J) ALT+F4
(N) And I will press ALT+F4 on this window as well.

(N) Launch FSReader using the icon on the Desktop. I will press WINDOWS Key+D.
(J) WINDOWS Key+D, folder view list view, Recycle Bin checked, 1 of 8.
(N) Press the letter F until you find FSReader.
(J) FSReader 3.0, checked.
(N) And then press ENTER to open it.
(J) FSReader - Untitled.
(N) When you open FSReader from the desktop like this the JAWS Table of Contents does not open automatically. The first thing I will do is press ALT+SPACEBAR, X to maximize the window.
(J) Menu, system menu, Restore unavailable, leaving menus.
(N) Next, press CTRL+O to access the Open File dialog box.
(J) CTRL+O, Open dialog, File Name: edit combo.
(N) Navigate to the folder where you extracted the contents of the book. I will type C:\ and ENTER.
(J) C:\
(N) Then I will press SHIFT+TAB to go back to the list of files and folders.
(J) Name header bar, folder view list view, not selected DAISY Training...
(N) That is the folder I want, so I will press SPACEBAR.
(J) Selected.
(N) And ENTER.

(N) There is the folder for the book that was just extracted. I will press DOWN ARROW.
(J) Checked, selected, 03-Menus...
(N) And I will press ENTER to go into that folder.

(N) Inside each DAISY book there is an ncc.html file. That is the file you want to select. I will do that by pressing DOWN ARROW.

(N) If you want to find out a little bit about this particular book you can press TAB to move forward and find the description. I will press TAB a few times.

(N) There is other information there as well, should you wish to read it. For now, I am just going to press ENTER to activate the Open button, which is the default button in this dialog box.

Exercise: Try downloading other files from the Getting Started with JAWS page and opening them. Note that you can also download just the HTML files for each book and view them in your web browser. You can also download just the audio for each book in MP3 format and listen to them using your favorite media player.
