(Narrator) How to Play Videos on YouTube with JAWS

I have JAWS running with Google Chrome on YouTube. Typically, once you press ENTER on a video, it should play automatically, but in this case, I have opened a video on the Freedom Scientific Training channel, and I haven't started it playing just yet. If you haven't yet visited our training channel, just type "Freedom Scientific Training," three words, in the search edit box and you should easily find it in the search results on YouTube.

The video that I have open currently is "The Focus 40 Blue Refreshable Braille Display Controls & Layout." I'm going to show you two different methods of navigating and playing videos here, first using the virtual cursor to explore the screen, and second using built-in keystrokes that Google have developed for use without the virtual cursor. The virtual cursor is at the top of the page. You could press the letter B, Bravo, to move to the play/pause button, the mute button, and other controls on the page. You could also use the list of form controls for JAWS, INSERT+F5, to find the controls. I want to move to the main region on the page where the controls for the video player begin. I will press R, Romeo, to move there.

(J) GUI toggle button, Banner, Search, main region.

(N) There it is. Now I will press DOWN ARROW to explore the items here.

(J) Seek slider, seek slider left right slider, 0 Minutes 0 Seconds of 4 Minutes 0 Seconds. Min zero max 240.

(N) As I continue to press DOWN ARROW you hear buttons for the following controls:

(J) Previous (SHIFT+P), Play (K), Next (SHIFT+N), Mute (M), left/right slider 100% volume, min zero max 100, 0:00/4:00, Subtitles/closed captions (C), Settings button menu, Miniplayer (I), Theater mode (T), Play on TV menu, Full screen (F) button.

(N) Eventually, focus moves to a heading level 1, the title of the video.

(J) Heading level one, The Focus 40 Blue Refreshable Braille Display Controls & Layout, 419 views, Jan 20, 2020.

(N) You have other controls below this for Like, Dislike, Share, and more. Below that is a description, if you are interested in reading more about the video and what it might be about. For now, I'm going to press CTRL+HOME to move back to the top of the page.

I will press INSERT+Z now.

(J) Virtual off.

(N) Next, I'm just going to press the letter K, as in Kilo, to play and pause the video. It is a toggle keystroke. I will let it play for a second or two, and then I will press the letter K again to stop it.

(N) YouTube may sometimes show ads before playing videos. Some can be skipped, and others cannot. If ads can be skipped, you may find the skip button by pressing the letter B, Bravo, or by using the JAWS Find command, CTRL+F, Foxtrot, to search for the word "skip." On a final note, remember that you can toggle the JAWS virtual cursor on and off by pressing INSERT+Z, Zulu. As you can see, it's easy to navigate and play videos on YouTube using JAWS and the keyboard.
