Using the JAWS Import/Export Feature

You may also use the JAWS Import/Export feature to share Dictionary files and more. The JAWS Import/Export feature creates an SBAK file and makes it easy to use, without having to find and open the "Utilities" and "Explore My Settings" folders.

Do the following to share Dictionary files with the Import/Export feature:

1. From the JAWS window or context menus open the JAWS Utilities sub menu. I will press INSERT+J.

(JAWS) Options submenu, Voice Assistant submenu.

2. (N) Choose Import/Export sub menu, and then press ENTER on Export Settings.

(J) Export User Settings dialog, Select Type Export all settings radio button checked, 1 of 2.

3. (N) The default is to export all settings. Change this to the second radio button and choose the Next button.

(J) Select Type Export specified settings radio button checked, 2 of 2.
Next > Button

4. (N) A tree view opens with different settings you may export. Select the item for Dictionary and press SPACEBAR to check it.

(J) Dictionary checked

5. (N) Activate the Next button by pressing ENTER, and then confirm the file location and file name in the next dialog box. Notice the extension of SBAK.

(J) Select a location and name for your backup file. Edit, C:\Users\dan\Desktop\JAWS2021SettingsBackup.sbak.

6. (N) Choose the Finish button by pressing ENTER.

(J) Export User Settings dialog, Export Results dialog, Details: read only edit multi line.
User settings export was successful.
OK Button.

7. (N) Press TAB to move to the OK button, and then press ENTER.

(J) Enu, Wordpad.jdf checked, 1 of 15.

(N) The SBAK file is copied to the desktop. I will press WINDOWS Key+D to move there.

(J) Windows D, folder view list view, recycle bin checked, 1 of 11.

(N) And I will press the letter J to find it.

(J) J, JAWS 2020, checked, J, JAWS 2021, checked, J, JAWS2021SettingsBackup.sbak, checked.

(N) There it is. Copy the SBAK file, share it with another person, and import it on another computer with the same Import/Export feature in JAWS, just choose the JAWS Utilities submenu, Import/Export submenu, Import Settings and follow the prompts.
