Rules Specific to Synthesizer or Person

(Narrator) For the purposes of this demonstration I am using Karen Vocalizer Expressive.

1. Open the JAWS Select a Voice Profile dialog box by pressing INSERT+CTRL+S, and then choose Karen in the list.

2. (N) Type a sentence in WordPad using the word "beta," and then read the line of text with JAWS. I will type, "Testing beta apps is important." When I press UP ARROW to move back to that line of text, notice that the Vocalizer Expressive synthesizer, Karen, pronounces it as "beeta." This is how people in most countries outside of the US say it.

3. Open Dictionary manager from within WordPad by pressing INSERT+D. The title bar of Dictionary manager reads WordPad.jdf.

(K) Press control plus shift plus d to modify the default dictionary file. Otherwise changes will effect only the current application. Add... Button.

9. (N) Since the rule really does not affect any of the United States voices you can leave the Voice combo box set to All Voices. However, let us make this one synthesizer-specific so you can get practice doing that. Choose the name of the Vocalizer Expressive synthesizer that you are using from this combo box, and then press ENTER to close the Add Dictionary Definition dialog box. Focus returns to the Dictionary manager dialog box.
