(Narrator) Hello and welcome to Access the Kindle for PC App with JAWS. During this short demonstration, I’ll show you how to navigate your Kindle library and use keyboard commands to access books. Amazon’s Kindle for PC app is frequently used to read books at home and in school, and it gives you access to a wide range of materials. Let’s get started.

After downloading the Kindle app, you’ll need to sign into your Amazon account. Your Kindle books will then be available to synch in the app. Press F5 to synch your content.

I’m here in the Kindle app and my books are synched and ready to read. When you open the app, you’re placed on the last screen you accessed. If you closed the book you were reading before exiting, focus will be on the home screen. You can return to this screen any time by pressing CTRL+ALT+L, Lima. You can navigate through the controls in the Kindle app using TAB and SHIFT+TAB. Let’s take a moment to explore a few of them.

(JAWS) Library Sidebar, Sync Button, Sync and check for new items. List box Library, List box, all 263 books.

(N) I’ve navigated to my library. Here, I can choose to access all my books, just those I’ve downloaded, or PDF files synced in the app. You can also choose whether you want the books to be displayed in a grid view or list view. I’ll press SHIFT+TAB until I reach those radio buttons.

(J) Downloaded: 7 books, Sync button, Table books, toolbar, Search, book browser Enter button Radio button checked. List view Radio button not checked. Grid View.

(N) I’ve checked the radio button for list view so the books will be arranged in a column rather than a grid. Now I’ll TAB back to my library choices.

(N) I’ll press DOWN ARROW to move to downloaded books.

(J) All 263 books, all 263 books, downloaded 7 books.

(N) You can navigate through this list one book at a time, using your up and down arrow keys. Press PGUP or PGDN to scroll in larger increments. Now let’s open a book by pressing ENTER on its title.

(N) If you’ve already accessed a particular book, and you want to resume on the page where you left off, press CTRL+ENTER, O, Oscar, when focus is on the book. You can read a book with keyboard commands you’d use to read a document or web page. For example, navigate by line by pressing the UP and DOWN ARROW keys, by character using RIGHT and LEFT ARROW keys, and by word with CTRL and RIGHT and LEFT ARROW keys. I’ll navigate by line.

(N) Select page or location, and press ENTER. I’ll choose page.

(N) Press CTRL+G again since I wasn’t automatically placed in the dialog box where I could type the page number.

(J) Control G, Go to dialog, of 222, enter page number between 1 and 222 edit.

(N) I’ll type 100 and press ENTER.

(N) I’ll press CTRL+W, Whisky, to close the book.

(N) Now I’ll show you how to use the Find command to locate a book by title, author, or subject. Press CTRL+F, Foxtrot, to activate the Find command.

(J) Control F, Kindle, toolbar, Search, search, search titles and authors edit

(N) I’ll type the word “guide” in the search box, since I know I have several books with that word in the title.
