JAWS Utilities Folder

(Narrator) JAWS has several utilities that you can quickly access to view license information, configuration and settings files, and help topics. These provide shortcuts to your user settings, shared settings, and program files. There are two ways to open the Explore Utilities folder.

Open the JAWS Utilities menu, and then choose Explore Utilities Folder
From the Windows Search edit box, type "utilities", use the DOWN ARROW key to find the Utilities app for the version of JAWS you are using, and then press ENTER.

I will switch to the JAWS window by pressing INSERT+J.

(JAWS) JAWS Professional.

(N) Press ALT+U to open the Utilities menu.

(J) Alt U, Menu, Utilities menu. Voice Assistant submenu.

(N) And choose Explore Utilities Folder in the menu. It is near the bottom, so I will press UP ARROW to find it.

(J) Braille and Text Viewer sub menu, Picture Smart INSERT+SPACE,P layer sub menu, Convenient OCR INSERT+SPACE,O layer sub menu, Explore Utilities Folder.

(N) There it is. Press ENTER to open the JAWS 2021 Utilities folder.

(J) Enter. Leaving menus. Utilities, Items View Multi Select List Box, Not Selected Dongle Viewer not checked. ?11/?16/?2020 ??10:40 AM Shortcut 2 KB, 1 of 17.

(N) A File Explorer window opens with seventeen or so different utilities. The main purpose with this exercise is to show you how to find the Utilities folder for JAWS, and then once you find it how to use a few of the more common settings that we think you may need someday. You may never need these but at least you know where they can be found. Press DOWN ARROW to find "Explore the Manuals," and then press ENTER to open it.

(N) A new File Explorer type window opens with the JAWS Quick Start guide and Keystrokes documents in several formats. For now, press ALT+F4 to close this window.

(N) Feel free to explore the other items in the JAWS Utilities folder. The other two we mention in this lesson include Explore My Settings and Help. When you are finished, press ALT+F4 to close the JAWS Utilities folder and any other windows you may have opened before moving on to the next lesson.
