JAWS Speech History

(Narrator) JAWS maintains a history of the last 500 strings of text that is sent to the speech synthesizer. JAWS is running. I will press WINDOWS Key+D to move focus to the Windows desktop.

(JAWS) Windows D. Folder view list view, JAWS 2021 checked, 6 of 8.

(N) Open JAWS layered mode first by pressing INSERT+SPACEBAR.

(J) Space. [pop sound]

(N) JAWS made a pop sound indicating that layered mode is active. Next, press the keystroke to clear the previous speech history, SHIFT+H.

(J) Speech history cleared.

(N) Now, press TAB to move forward past the Start button, the Task Bar, etc. until focus returns to the Windows desktop once more.

(J) Start Button, Type here to search Button, Talk to Cortana Button, Task View Button, Task bar Google Chrome Button, System Tray Meet Now Button, Show desktop Button, Folder View List view, JAWS 2021 checked, 6 of 8.

(N) Now, press the keystroke to open the JAWS Speech History, INSERT+SPACEBAR followed by H.

(J) Space. [pop sound] Speech History, 6 of 8.

(N) JAWS Speech History opens in the Virtual Viewer. Press CTRL+END to move to the bottom of the speech history window. That is where the most recent text that was spoken appears.

(J) 6 of 8.

(N) Press the UP ARROW key to move backwards through the speech history.

(J) JAWS 2021 checked, Folder View List view, etc.

(N) Try selecting some text in the Speech History and copy it to the clipboard. Paste the contents of the clipboard into a practice document. Press ESC to close the Speech History when you are finished.

(J) Escape.

(N) When you are finished practicing, close the practice document you may have opened. You do not need to save the changes for the practice document. Then move on to the next lesson.
