(Narrator) When in a web browser like Chrome, a focus rectangle tracks where JAWS is reading. Focus is on the Web Track practice form web page on Surf’s Up and will demonstrate the Virtual PC cursor. I can navigate this page with JAWS Navigation Quick Keys specific to environments where the Virtual PC cursor is active or read text with reading commands like I would a word processing document. I will press CTRL+HOME to make sure focus is at the top of the page.

(JAWS) The Web Track Sample Call Tracking System.

(N) I will press the Navigation Quick key H to move to the first heading.

(J) The Web Track Sample Form heading level 1.

(N) The Virtual PC cursor navigated to the first heading, and JAWS read the text there. Focus is before the letter T of the word “the.” You can navigate as you would using the PC cursor. I will press RIGHT ARROW to move one character to the right.

(J) h

(N) And LEFT ARROW to navigate one character to the left.

(J) T

(N) When in a web browser, the search edit box and address bar use the PC cursor instead of the Virtual PC cursor, as do some browser dialog boxes. The same is true for Forms Mode, which I will demonstrate by pressing TAB to move to the first form field.

(J) First name. This is a required field. Edit Type in text.

(N) The pop sound you heard indicates Forms Mode has been activated. The PC cursor is now active. I will type my first name in this field.

(J) L I z

(N) I will press NUM PAD PLUS to activate the Virtual PC cursor, which will also turn off Forms Mode. You will hear a pop sound like the previous one but lower in pitch.

(N) I will continue pressing DOWN ARROW to navigate through this form.

(J) Middle edit Middle edit middle initial, Last * edit last name, This is a required field. Area Code edit, area code edit, Prefix edit, prefix edit, Number edit, number edit.

(N) As focus moves in and out of the various form fields, JAWS automatically switches between the PC cursor and Virtual PC cursor. Use Navigation Quick keys and reading commands to practice navigating and reading web page content with the Virtual PC cursor.
