(Narrator) Focus is in a Notepad document, and I have placed the PC cursor on the first line of text after the title. By default, focus is before the first letter of the first word whenever you navigate to a new line. The first word on this line is “the,” so the PC cursor is before the letter T. If I press RIGHT ARROW, which I will do now, the PC cursor moves one letter to the right.

(JAWS) h

(N) I will press RIGHT ARROW one more time to move to E.

(J) e

(N) I can press LEFT ARROW to move to the left, which I will do a couple of times to navigate back to T.

(J) h T

(N) If I press CTRL+RIGHT ARROW, the PC cursor will move by word, which I will demonstrate now.

(J) Male Northern Cardinal

(N) The PC cursor is now a blinking carat in front of the letter C of the word “cardinal.” Now I will demonstrate the PC cursor in a Notepad menu. Pressing ALT accesses the menu bar, which I will do.

(J) Menu bar File f

(N) Now I will press DOWN ARROW to navigate through a few of the items in the File menu.

(N) The PC cursor moves to each menu option as I navigate. Now I will demonstrate the PC cursor in a dialog box. I will keep pressing DOWN ARROW in the File menu until I reach Save As, and press ENTER to activate it.

(J) Save Ctrl+S s Save As... Ctrl+Shift+S a, Leaving menus, Save As dialog, File name: edit combo, *.txt Alt+n.

(N) Focus is in the Save-as dialog box, where I can navigate using TAB and the ARROW Keys. Focus is in the File Name edit box where I could type a new name for this document, and I will press TAB to move to the next box which is the Save As Type combo box.

(J) Save as type: Combo box, Text Documents (*.txt) 1 of 2, Alt+t.

(N) The UP and DOWN ARROW keys are used to navigate using the PC cursor in combo boxes. Some of the options in this dialog box are represented by buttons while others are in list boxes. These are all navigated with the PC cursor, which cannot move outside this area if the dialog box is open. I will press ESC to exit the Save As dialog box and return to the document.
