(Narrator) The JAWS Basic Training

The JAWS Basic Training is a series of nine DAISY books that give you the best possible start on your road to mastering Windows with JAWS. Offering both full text and audio, each book takes you step-by-step through performing many common tasks including starting JAWS, adjusting speech, reading documents, browsing the Internet, and much more. You can install the Basic Training books directly from the JAWS Table of Contents in FSReader, or download the individual files from the Freedom Scientific website.

Install and Open the Basic Training Using the Table of Contents

This is the preferred method and requires an Internet connection as the Basic Training books are not installed by default and need to be downloaded.

To open FSReader, first switch to the JAWS window, by pressing INSERT+J.

(JAWS) JAWS Professional.

(N) and then press ALT+H to go to the Help menu.

(J) ALT+H, menu, help menu, Commands Search, INSERT+SPACE, J.

(N) Find and press ENTER on Training in the help menu.

(N) FSReader opens to the JAWS Table of Contents. Press ALT+SPACEBAR, X to maximize the window.

(J) Menu, system menu, Restore unavailable, leaving menus.

(N) Press CTRL+HOME to go to the top of the document.

(J) JAWS Training Contents.

(N) The Basic Training books are divided into level 3 headings to make it easier to jump to a particular book. Press H until you reach the first book, “Book One, Introduction and Overview of the JAWS Basic Training.”

(N) Press DOWN ARROW to read additional details about the book including a description as well as the amount of time it should take to complete it.

(J) In this first introductory book, you begin a journey into learning how to use your computer with JAWS. We start this journey at the very beginning, with the basics. We teach you not only about how to use JAWS, but also about how to use basic Windows concepts. The total time to listen to book one is 6 minutes 11 seconds.

(N) Continue pressing DOWN ARROW until you reach the link to open the book and press ENTER.

(J) Table end. Use this link to open book "link" 1 Introduction and Overview.

(N) If the book has not yet been installed, FSReader automatically downloads the book and opens it for reading or listening. If the book is already installed, it immediately opens.
