(Narrator) Bookmarks

If you have FSReader open from the last topic, you’re ready to go. I don’t have it open, so I’ll go ahead and open it now:

To open FSReader, switch to the JAWS window by pressing INSERT+J. I have JAWS set to run in the system tray, so a context menu is displayed instead.

(JAWS) JAWS context menu, option sub menu.

(N) Next, press ALT and the letter H to go to the Help menu. My JAWS is set to start from the system tray, so I’ll just press H by itself.

(N) Find and press ENTER on Training in the Help menu. Again, since mine is running from the system tray I’ll press the letter T.

(N) FSReader opens to the JAWS Table of Contents. NOTE: If the Table of Contents is not available in your version of FSReader, just press F1 to open the DAISY book built-in help to use as you participate in this practice. Press ALT+SPACEBAR followed by X to maximize FSReader.

(J) Menu. System menu. Restore unavailable. Leaving menus. JAWS Training Contents heading level one.

(N) Bookmarks allow you to quickly return to certain positions in text content. Press CTRL+B to set a bookmark. I’ll press CTRL+HOME to go to the top of the Table of Contents.

(N) Then press H several times to navigate through headings so I can find a place I want to bookmark.

(N) I’ll set a bookmark here at the JAWS User Interface and Utilities. I’ll press CTRL+B.

(J) CNTRL+B set bookmark dialog enter a name for this bookmark colon edit

(N) I’ll type the JAWS Interface.

(N) And I’ll press ENTER to create the bookmark.

(N) Now I’ll navigate to the top of the Table of Contents again with CTRL+HOME.

(N) Press CTRL+K to view a list of bookmarks.

(N) We just heard the name of the bookmark we created, and JAWS also told us it was the first of 3 bookmarks in this list. I can navigate through the list using my UP and DOWN ARROW keys. I’ll press DOWN ARROW to hear the other bookmarks in the list.

(N) I’ll press UP ARROW to go back to the first bookmark.

(N) And I’ll press ENTER to move to that position in the text.

(N) I’ll press CTRL+K to go back to bookmarks list so we can navigate through other options in this dialog.

(N) I’ll press TAB so we can move through these options.

(J) Go to button

(N) We can go to a bookmark.

(J) Rename button

(N) Rename a bookmark.

(J) Delete button

(N) Delete a bookmark.

(J) Close button

(N) Close a bookmark or close the bookmarks list. We can also press ESCAPE to close this list which I will do now.

(N) And I’m returned to the Table of Contents.

When continuing on to the next topic in this module you may leave FSReader open with the Table of Contents in view. That is where we’ll pick up again in the next topic.
