Question
What should I do if installation fails and exits when attempting to install JAWS 18 on Windows 7 or 8.1?
Answer
If JAWS 18 installation fails in versions of Windows prior to Windows 10, it
might be because Universal C Runtime in Windows (KB2999226) could not be installed.
Please try the following steps to try to help resolve the issue:
- If possible, check for system updates and make sure all windows updates
are applied.
- If you cannot apply all updates, go to "Installed Updates" and
Search for KB2999226 to determine if it is installed. This check is for diagnostic
purposes.
- If not, reboot the computer, then go to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226
and download the correct installer for your operating system. The installer
is the "Update for Universal C Runtime in Windows".
- Run the installer. To confirm successful installation of the Universal C
Runtime, select "Installed Updates" again and search for KB2999226.
- Restart the JAWS installer. JAWS should install correctly.
