The PEARL camera does not work properly with certain Intel chipsets in newer laptop computers. As a result, the camera will not acquire documents. To fix this problem, you need to update the camera’s firmware (as described below) and install the latest OpenBook 9 software.

1. Quit OpenBook if it is running.
2. Connect your PEARL camera to your computer.
3. Download and run the PEARL Firmware Update app.
   
   IMPORTANT: Do NOT unplug the camera or power off your computer during the firmware update.
   
   
4. When the update is finished, unplug the camera from your computer.
5. Download and install OpenBook 9.0.1757 or later onto your computer.
6. When installation is finished, connect the camera to your computer, and start OpenBook.
   
   PEARL and OpenBook will now acquire and read documents.
